Deputy Foreign Minister Chen Ming-chi attended a reception marking Saint Lucia’s 47th Independence Day Feb. 23 in Taipei City, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Robert Kennedy Lewis, the allied nation’s ambassador to the ROC (Taiwan), emphasized that the two countries share the values of democracy, freedom and equality. Lewis thanked Taiwan for its long-standing assistance and exchanges in agriculture, culture, economy, education, public health, security and trade, pledging that St. Lucia will continue working with Taiwan, the MOFA said.
In response, Chen lauded the ally for nurturing two Nobel Prize laureates and an Olympic gold medalist. He also congratulated the Caribbean country on its smooth general election in December 2025, demonstrating its citizens’ commitment to democratic governance.
Additionally, the deputy minister expressed gratitude to the allied nation for its long-term support for Taiwan’s participation in international organizations. Under the government’s integrated diplomacy strategy and Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project, Taiwan is committed to continued cooperation with St. Lucia to jointly make more contributions to regional peace and prosperity, the ministry concluded.
