Deputy Foreign Minister François Chih-chung Wu received a Czech delegation led by Otto Vopěnka, first deputy governor of Vysočina Region and a member of the Chamber of Deputies, March 18 in Taipei City, exchanging opinions on the Taiwan-Czechia relationship and local government cooperation.
Wu thanked Vysočina on behalf of Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung for the region’s longstanding support of Taiwan and for its close interactions with the country. The Czech Republic is one of Taiwan’s most important partners in Europe and is part of the ecosystem of European Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., he said. The two sides are committed to promoting exchanges and cooperation on investment, personnel cultivation and direct flights, the deputy foreign minister noted, adding that he looks forward to deepening bilateral relationships through the current visit.
In response, Vopěnka said he is glad to see the growth in relations between Taiwan and Czechia in recent years. He hoped to explore more collaborative opportunities during the current visit and added that he would share his experience with other Vysočina officials and other Chamber of Deputies members.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the delegation’s itinerary includes attendance at the 2026 Smart City Summit and Expo in Taipei, visits to the Ministry of Health and Welfare, Taichung City Government and Taichung Veterans General Hospital, as well as looking at artificial intelligence applications related to city infrastructure construction.
