UpdatesDeputy FM welcomes German legislator
Deputy Foreign Minister François Chih-chung Wu pledged to continue to jointly promote the safety of the global semiconductor supply chain through cooperation with Germany and the rest of Europe.

Wu made the remarks while receiving Alexander Radwan Aug. 1 in Taipei City. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Radwan, a member of Germany’s parliament, was accompanied by Katrin Buchholz, acting director general of German Institute Taipei.

According to the MOFA, Wu thanked Johann Wadephul, Germany’s federal minister for foreign affairs, for opposing military operations over the Taiwan Strait by citing the Charter of the United Nations last month. The deputy minister added that Taiwan welcomes like-minded countries to join the defense of freedom of navigation in the Taiwan Strait.

In response, Radwan said that his visit’s aim was to gain insight into Taiwan’s democracy, cross-strait relations, partnerships with Indo-Pacific countries and experiences in supply chain derisking. The MOFA said that he also vowed to continue promoting substantial bilateral collaboration.

Along with Germany and other European democracies, Taiwan will persist in safeguarding democracy and freedom to advance stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific, the MOFA concluded. (POC-E)
