Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs François Chih-chung Wu said Taiwan is committed to expanding its democratic and strategic partnership with Czechia.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the deputy minister made the remarks during a remote interview from Taipei City with Alexis Rosenzweig for a piece published Nov. 11 in the online French edition of Radio Prague International.
The deputy minister said Taiwan has continued to demonstrate unyielding confidence and resilience in the face of unprecedented multiple threats from China, such as military intimidation, disinformation campaigns and diplomatic isolation.
Given its strategic role in the semiconductor industry, Taiwan has become a key partner when it comes to safeguarding global supply chain security, Wu said, adding that the fabrication plant set up by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. in Dresden, Germany, underscores the significance of trade and technological cooperation between Taiwan and Europe.
Describing Czechia as an important democratic partner in Europe, Wu predicted a continued deepening of ties between the two countries under the new Czech administration. Taiwan is committed to working with the U.S. and democratic partners in Europe to ensure that key technologies remain in the hands of the free world, he said.
Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim’s recent address to the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China at the European Parliament in Brussels marks a new page in Taiwan-Europe relations, Wu said, adding that Taiwan’s vibrant democracy and innovation are powerful forces for maintaining regional stability and universal values.
