According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the cross-party group visiting Nov. 24-28 was led by Kasper Roug, vice chair of the Danish parliamentary Taiwan friendship group, and comprised fellow parliamentarians Thomas Jensen, Alex Ahrendtsen and Morten Klessen.
Wu said Denmark is a like-minded partner who shares the same values of freedom and democracy as Taiwan, and expressed hope that the two sides will continue to deepen bilateral relations and cooperation based on the existing robust foundation.
According to the deputy minister, China continues to make military threats and incursions towards Taiwan, while a congregation of authoritarian regimes challenges the global order. He called on all democracies to work in unity to check such authoritarian expansion.
Wu attributed the success of Taiwan’s strong semiconductor sector to close and long-term high-tech cooperation with European partner countries. The government will continue to work with partners around the world to promote global prosperity and security, he said, anticipating that the group would continue its advocacy for enhanced exchanges between Taiwan and Europe.
In response, Roug said the delegates were all impressed by the hospitality and vitality of the Taiwanese people, as well as their resilience in the face of China’s coercion.
The vice chair praised Taiwan’s achievements in developing the semiconductor sector, technology and democratic resilience, adding that the delegates will continue to urge the Danish government to express concern about the Taiwan Strait and voice support for democratic Taiwan.
The group met with Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim earlier the same day. Other items on the itinerary included meetings with senior government officials and visits to the Hsinchu Science Park and Taiwan Space Agency, among other facilities. (SFC-E)
