Deputy Foreign Minister François Chih-chung Wu hosted a luncheon for a delegation from Tuvalu led by Public Works, Infrastructure and Environment Minister Ampelosa Manoa Tehulu Aug. 15 in Taipei City, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
Taiwan and Tuvalu have achieved fruitful cooperation results and will work together on natural disaster response, Wu said. He praised the ally’s consistent support for Taiwan and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to jointly safeguarding peace, prosperity and stability in the Pacific.
Following his remarks, Tehulu thanked Taiwan for its long-standing contributions to infrastructure development in Tuvalu. He said he looked forward to expanding collaboration to enhance mutual climate change resilience.
The same day, the MOFA released a statement welcoming the upcoming visit of a delegation from Romania. Led by Cristian Ghinea, senator and co-chair of the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China, the group comprises legislators from the Romanian Senate and Chamber of Deputies.
The delegation’s itinerary includes visits to the Ministries of Agriculture, Finance, Digital Affairs, Economic Affairs and Foreign Affairs; the Financial Supervisory Commission; and the National Development Council. Members will also tour economic and high-tech facilities such as the Taiwan External Trade Development Council and Hsinchu Science Park and meet with academics, experts and representatives of nongovernmental organizations to discuss issues spanning cybersecurity, disinformation and foreign interference.
According to the MOFA, Taiwan and Romania share the values of freedom, democracy, and respect for human rights and the rule of law and have untapped potential for deeper industrial, technological and trade collaboration. The ministry will continue to deepen bilateral relationships to jointly advance democratic resilience and prosperity, it said. (YCH-E)
