HomeUpdatesDeputy FM Wu welcomes Spanish lawmakers
Deputy Foreign Minister François Chih-chung Wu anticipated deepened cooperation and exchange with Spain in information and communication technologies, renewable energy and semiconductors.

Wu made the remarks while welcoming a six-member Spanish cross-party delegation from the lower house of Spain's bicameral parliament, the Congress of Deputies. The group was led by Mikel Legarda Uriarte Basque Nationalist party member, and included BNP members Nerea Ahedo Ceza and Idoia Sagastizabal and Cristina Valido García, Canarian Coalition party member.

Wu noted the historical connection between Taiwan and Spain in the Age of Discovery 400 years ago, when Spanish explorers established the San Salvador and the Santo Domingo forts in Keelung and Tamsui. He added that currently based on the shared values of democracy and freedom there has been growth in bilateral economic and trade ties.

Legarda lauded Taiwan’s technological prowess and anticipated the visit acting as a catalyst to further cooperative opportunities. The Spanish delegation will also call on the Legislative Yuan, Ministry of Economic Affairs, National Security Council, National Science and Technology Council and Hsinchu Science Park, the ministry concluded.
