HomeUpdatesDocumentary on Taiwan’s Eiffel bridges to air Bastille Day
A 24-minute documentary on Taiwan bridges designed and fabricated by Colombes-based Eiffel at the end of the 19th century is set to air July 14 on the TaiwanPlus TV channel and TaiwanPlus Docs YouTube channel.

Supported by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications’ Highway Bureau, the production was shot in both Taiwan and France and features interviews with academics and experts including members of the Association of Descendants of Gustave Eiffel and Bertrand Lemoine, former head of Paris-based Académie d'Architecture, the HB said.

According to the bureau, the Ciyun, Cihang, Guanxing and Qingquan bridges in the Central Mountain Range share the same construction methods and structure as the Eiffel Tower. The prefabricated components of the portable bridges were transported to Taiwan in the 1950s.

In conjunction with the documentary release, an exhibition on the bridges is underway through July 18 at Taiwan Highway Museum in Taipei City, the HB said, adding that among the exhibited items are precious documents from Taiwan and France such as a bridge patent written by Gustave Eiffel in 1881. The display symbolizes the long-term engineering exchange between the two sides, the bureau concluded. (POC-E)
