HomeUpdatesEconomic Minister Kung concludes successful France visit
Minister of Economic Affairs Kung Ming-hsin led a delegation to France from March 30 to April 1, with the two sides pledging to continue expanding bilateral trade and industry cooperation.

According to the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Kung took part in the 2026 bilateral economic and trade dialogue, which focused on supply chain resilience, energy transition and space issues. Given the rising geopolitical risks, the two sides discussed ways to strengthen supply chain resilience, expand mutual investment and technological collaboration, and enhance their respective competitiveness.

The MOEA said in the current artificial intelligence era, semiconductors, information and communications technology and related sectors have become the main drivers of the global economy. Taiwan’s Five Trusted Industry Sectors, namely semiconductors, artificial intelligence, military, security and surveillance, and next-generation communications, are highly complementary with France’s industrial strengths, the ministry said, adding that the dialogue will help both sides address future challenges.

During his stay, the minister also met with businesses and industry associations to underscore Taiwan’s importance in the global supply chain and share the country’s economic achievements and key trade policies while encouraging more French firms to expand investment in Taiwan.

Other highlights of Kung’s visit included attending an offshore wind power roundtable to bring participants up to speed on the country’s policy and efforts to build a low-risk investment environment, as well as visiting satellite operator Eutelsat and a drone manufacturer to exchange views and seek cooperation opportunities.

Official statistics from 2025 show that France was Taiwan’s third-largest trading partner in the EU, with two-way trade reaching US$6.38 billion. (SFC-E)
