HomeUpdatesEuropean Parliament delegation visits Taiwan
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs extended a sincere welcome to the European Parliament delegation in Taiwan through Jan. 9.

Led by Michael Gahler from Germany, chair of the European Taiwan Friendship Group, the ten-person contingent comprises European Parliament members including Christophe Gomart from France, Sven Simon from Germany and Wouter Beke from Belgium, the MOFA said.

During their stay in Taiwan, the representatives will be received by President Lai Ching-te, attend a banquet hosted by Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung and meet with members of the National Security Council and Mainland Affairs Council, as well as the Ministries of Economic Affairs and National Defense, the MOFA said. Delegates will also meet with representatives of domestic industry and academia to discuss building societal resilience and countering cyberattacks and disinformation, in addition to Taiwan-Europe economic cooperation and cross-strait and Indo-Pacific conditions.

The European Parliament adopted resolutions on annual reports on the implementation of the European Union Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) and Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) April 2, 2025, demonstrating concern over escalating cross-strait tensions. The body also urged the European Union and its member nations to continue cooperation and exchange with Taiwan, for which the MOFA is grateful.

Taiwan pledged to jointly reinforce democratic resilience with the European Parliament and build a mutually beneficial alliance network, the ministry said. (POC-E)
