The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the American State Offices Association jointly organized an appreciation reception Nov. 24 in Taipei City to celebrate bilateral cooperation across a wide range of sectors.
According to the MOFA, the event was attended by Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung, American Institute in Taiwan Deputy Director Karin Lang and representatives from the offices of ASOA member states in Taiwan.
Lin said this year delegations from five U.S. states and Guam led by their respective governors visited Taiwan and there were unprecedented exchanges with state governments and legislatures. Currently, 25 states and Guam have established representative offices in Taiwan, demonstrating the close friendship between the two sides, he added.
The minister lauded trade and investment links and bilateral exchanges on tourism, culture and education sectors, and attributed such success to the Lai administration’s policy for deepening Taiwan-US trade ties. Taiwan and the US are important trade partners for one another, he said, adding that the government hopes to expand cooperation into yet more sectors.
Lang thanked the MOFA and ASOA for their strong partnerships, which supported a wide range of trade and agricultural engagements as well as major investment projects. She added that the AIT looks forward to continuing this strong collaboration in the coming year.
ASOA President Felix Yen said ASOA member states took part in more than 15 major exhibitions in Taiwan in the past year, including the U.S. pavilion at the Taipei International Travel Fair after a seven-year hiatus. He thanked the MOFA for its long-standing support for bilateral industrial collaboration.
Statistics show that the U.S. was Taiwan’s second largest trade partner in 2024 and accounted for more than 40 percent of Taiwan’s outgoing investments. (SFC-E)
