Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung received Louis Zabaneh, Belizean minister of constitution and religious affairs, Indigenous affairs, and transportation, and Michel Chebat, minister of public utilities, energy and logistics, at a luncheon Oct. 29 in Taipei City.

Lin said in his welcoming remarks that Taiwan and Belize have a strong partnership based on reciprocal prosperity. He recalled the growth he saw in ongoing collaborative projects over four visits to the ally, and said that he looks forward to expanding bilateral cooperation in green energy and electric vehicles.

Lin pledged to continue promoting the Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project, part of the integrated diplomacy policy, to jointly advance national development and enhance the welfare of the people of both countries.

Zabaneh said the two countries’ solid friendship is seen in supportive remarks delivered by Belizean Prime Minister John Briceño in such international forums as the U.N. General Assembly. He further expressed appreciation for Taiwan decision to open zero-tariff imports of frozen white shrimp from Belize, and said Taiwan’s public transportation measures will guide Belize’s future policies.

Chebat said he had gained a deeper understanding of Taiwan’s solar energy technologies over the past few days, adding that he looked forward to seeing more Taiwanese enterprises providing internship opportunities for Belizean students to expand industrial cooperation and talent cultivation.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, other attendees included Deputy Minister Lin Kuo-shian of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, Amb. Katherine Vanessa Meighan and representatives of the domestic electric vehicle industry. They exchanged views on investment, smart transportation development and trade, the ministry said. (YCH-E)
