HomeUpdatesFM Lin receives Eswatini delegation
Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung received a delegation from Eswatini led by Jane Mkhonta-Simelane, the African ally’s minister of tourism and environmental affairs, Oct. 22 in Taipei City, highlighting government commitment to strengthening partnerships with Eswatini, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

Lin began by recounting his trip to Eswatini in April, when he visited the Hlane Royal National Park and donated to rhinoceros conservation. He also highlighted the visit by Taiwanese tourism industry professionals in September, which he said helped boost the number of Taiwanese tourists to the ally.

In response, Mkhonta-Simelane said the current trip is expected to deepen delegation members’ understanding of Taiwan’s conservation, environmental and tourism policies. Eswatini anticipates attracting 2 million tourists annually by 2027, she said, adding that she looks forward to expanding climate change exchanges with Taiwan.

The tourism and environment minister went on to say that Taiwan is an important partner of Eswatini and expressed appreciation for the country’s long-standing backing of Eswatini’s national development. She reaffirmed that King Mswati III and Eswatini’s government will continue to staunchly voice support for Taiwan in the global arena.

Following a gift exchange with Lin, the delegation attended a banquet hosted by Deputy Foreign Minister François Chih-chung Wu. Minister of Environment Peng Chi-ming and Lin Kuo-shian, administrative deputy minister of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, were also in attendance.

According to the MOFA, the ministry will continue to strengthen the relationship with Eswatini through its Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project. The ministry also hopes to see more Taiwanese tourists visiting Eswatini to advance exchanges and mutual prosperity, it added. (YCH-E)
