FM receives French parliamentary delegation

Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung anticipates continued close collaboration with France to boost joint contributions to global prosperity.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Lin made the remarks while receiving a delegation led by Marie-Noëlle Battistel, chair of the French National Assembly’s Taiwan friendship group, June 9 in Taipei City. Other prominent guests included Éric Martineau, vice chair of the friendship group.

The minister also thanked the French Parliament for its unwavering cross-party support of Taiwan, as evidenced by its 2021 passage of a resolution backing Taiwan’s international participation and its approval of the 2024-2030 Military Programming Law in 2023, where France vowed to defend freedom of navigation in the Indo-Pacific. Lin also said that the countries continue to grow closer, and noted the potential for collaborations in key technological and innovative industries.

The MOFA said that Battistel’s response emphasized that she, along with fellow members of the Taiwan friendship group, would continue to support Taiwan. She described the course of action as being in the interest of not only France but also the rest of the world, and concluded by calling on democracies to stand with Taiwan amid China’s threats and coercion, the ministry added.

The delegation is the second from the French National Assembly to visit Taiwan this year, the MOFA said, adding that the first was led by Guillaume Kasbarian, another member of the National Assembly’s Taiwan friendship group. (POC-E)
