Foreign Minister Lin receives Eswatini delegation

UpdatesForeign Minister Lin receives Eswatini delegation
Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-lung met with a delegation from the Kingdom of Eswatini July 29 in Taipei City to discuss issues of mutual interest and expand cooperation with the African ally.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the group is led by Minister of Public Service Mabulala Maseko and Minister of Education and Training Owen Sabelo Nxumalo.

Lin welcomed the delegates and said their visit underscores the deep and robust relationship between the two countries. The minister said he visited the African nation in late April as President Lai Ching-te’s special envoy and attended the 57th birthday celebration of King Mswati III.

Under the integrated diplomacy strategy and Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project, Taiwan has been implementing various projects to enhance the well-being of the people of Eswatini, Lin said, adding that the government expects these initiatives to help bolster the ally’s national development for mutual benefit and prosperity.

In response, Maseko and Nxumalo thanked the government for the hospitality. They said visits to the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Civil Service and other related agencies have greatly helped the delegates better understand Taiwan’s talent cultivation policies.

The group also attended a luncheon hosted by Deputy Foreign Minister François Chih-chung Wu the same day and called on the MOE on July 28 for in-depth discussions with Education Minister Cheng Ying-yao.

Cheng said the two allies have a strong foundation in education cooperation, with 609 Eswatini students studying in Taiwan and two local teachers teaching Mandarin in the African nation this year. Several local tertiary institutions have concluded academic exchange agreements with the University of Eswatini, he said, anticipating the delegates’ visit to pave the way for more exchanges in the future.
