MOC unveils Taiwan cultural program for Expo 2025

The Ministry of Culture June 19 unveiled the details of its We TAIWAN, a key cultural engagement and global connection initiative by Taiwan for the Expo 2025 in Japan.

According to the MOC, the initiative comprises four programs to spotlight Taiwan’s prowess in combining cultural diversity and technology in art. The initiative will kick off Aug. 2 and run through Aug. 20 at various sites in the Japanese city of Osaka.

Titled Blended Colors and staged at Grand Green Osaka VS, the event will feature the “Tawan Spectrum” exhibition, a sensory journey through geography, history, culture and contemporary art, as well as a Theme Night that includes standup comedy and music for invited guests only.

Conceived for the Osaka City Central Public Hall, the Creativity that Crosses Over program will present performances by Taiwan groups Huang Yi & Kuka and Free UR Head, screenings of 10 virtual reality films and 10 Taiwan features, and the “Magical Taiwan” exhibition that approaches different aspects of Taiwanese literature through the lens of the magical, the supernatural and the realm of deities and spirits.

The Dynamic Energy program includes cross-temporal, cross-disciplinary contemporary performances; an exhibition on Taiwan’s diverse culture; and the highly popular market fair Taiwan Plus 2025. An upcoming online game titled “a-We Poke Poke” also sets out to engage the public and generate keen interest in the event.

According to the MOC, Taiwan’s Tech World pavilion in the Expo showcases the country’s skill and panache in digital applications and smart technology. Its major features respond to the expo theme of “Designing Future Society for Our Lives.” (SFC-E)
