The investment delegation organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Kingdom of Eswatini Nov. 10-12 has successfully expanded trade relations between Taiwan and the African ally.
According to the MOFA, the group comprised representatives from Taiwanese firms operating in southern Africa. The visit follows Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung’s trip as a presidential envoy and head of a business delegation in late April this year, and another in late July, the ministry said.
The three tours were all warmly welcomed by King Mswati III and Prime Minister Russell Dlamini, the MOFA said, adding that the visits also underscore the commitment of Taiwan’s public and private sectors to promoting the government’s Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project.
The ministry said that participating firms covered sectors such as auto components and parts, construction, cosmetics, garment, textile and packaging. During their stay, the delegates met with Dlamini and took part in an investment seminar attended by Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade Manqoba Khumalo and his deputy Melusi Masuku, as well as Deputy Senate President Ndumiso Mdluli.
The delegation also called on the Business One-Stop Shop, the ally’s investment service window, the planned site of the Taiwan Industrial Innovation Park and several Taiwanese firms already in the ally to explore new business opportunities.
Since official relations began in 1968, Taiwan and Eswatini have enjoyed a robust partnership and continued to deepen ties, the MOFA said, adding that it will expand cooperation with the African ally in line with the government’s integrated diplomacy to promote sustainable economic development, stability and prosperity for both sides.
