The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Health and Welfare staged the first medical and health diplomacy advisory group session July 22 in Taipei City, underscoring interministerial commitment to promoting cooperative projects with allies and like-minded partners.
Among the participants were domestic medical institutions involved in global collaboration and representatives of local medical device suppliers, the MOFA said, adding that the session followed a meeting between Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung and MOHW Minister Chiu Tai-yuan in February, during which the two sides agreed to establish the group.
At the event, the MOFA briefed attendees on the strategies and goals of overseas outreach in smart medicine. Taipei City-based International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) additionally shared progress on a project to enhance medical data management in Paraguay, the ministry added.
In his remarks, Lin said he looked forward to working with the MOHW and TaiwanICDF to advance smart medicine in allied and like-minded countries while expanding the global market penetration of domestic medical enterprises. He added that the newly founded panel is expected to facilitate the advancement of health ecosystems in allied nations.
The MOFA has been actively promoting the Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project as part of efforts to strengthen Taiwan’s key position in democratic supply chains. There are eight major plans under the project based on the Executive Yuan’s Five Trusted Industry Sectors, including smart medicine and health, the MOFA concluded. (POC-E)
