The supportive statements recently released by the foreign ministers of Japan, Germany and Australia are sincerely appreciated by the government and people of Taiwan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
According to the MOFA, during a press conference Feb. 10, Japan’s Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi said Taiwan is an important partner and friend that shares the same fundamental values with Japan, adding that his government will continue to deepen cooperation and exchanges with Taiwan.
Motegi’s remarks are in line with the stance expressed by Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi since taking office last October and again following her ruling Liberal Democratic Party’s general election win Feb. 8. They both underscore the deep bond between the two sides and the importance the Japanese government attaches to the bilateral ties, the ministry said.
Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong and German Federal Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul issued a joint statement following their meeting Feb. 5 in Canberra to stress the importance of peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.
The ministry said the duo reiterated opposition to any unilateral attempts to change the status quo, called for the peaceful management of cross-strait issues through dialogue, and expressed support for Taiwan’s meaningful participation in international organizations.
In line with its integrated diplomacy approach, the government of Taiwan will continue to expand cooperation with the three like-minded partners to defend the rules-based international order and ensure peace, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific, the MOFA said. (SFC-E)
