Support for Taiwan reiterated by Palau, Tuvalu and the Marshall Islands following the termination of diplomatic relations between the ROC (Taiwan) government and Nauru is sincerely appreciated by the government and people, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Jan. 16.
In a post on its official Facebook account, the Palauan Office of the President said Taiwan supports many small island nations and respects the rule of law. It went on to add that President Surangel S. Whipps Jr. called the two countries partners in fostering progress that are bound by shared democratic values and commitment to a peaceful and prosperous Indo-Pacific.
Tuvalu Prime Minister Kausea Natano sent a letter to the Embassy of the ROC (Taiwan), Funafuti, Tuvalu, to reaffirm that the country is a staunch friend of Taiwan and will continue to support its democracy, the MOFA said. Similar sentiments were also expressed by Governor-General Tofiga Falani, Foreign Minister Panapasi Nelesone and Parliamentary Speaker Samuelu Teo, the ministry added.
The Marshall Islands released a post on its embassy in Taiwan’s Facebook account, in which it also called itself Taiwan’s true friend. Taiwan is a key partner in promoting regional peace and prosperity, and it has a right to participate as an invaluable member of the global community, it said, adding that the Marshall Islands reaffirmed their diplomatic ties and will continue to advocate for and stand in solidarity with Taiwan.
The ROC (Taiwan) government will keep deepening its partnerships with Palau, Tuvalu and the Marshall Islands while working closely with like-minded partners such as Australia, Japan and the U.S. to jointly safeguard peace, prosperity and stability in the Indo-Pacific, the MOFA added. (YCH-E)
