The serious concern expressed by the governments of Thailand and Vietnam over peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait is sincerely appreciated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nov. 28.
According to the MOFA, the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs said cross-strait peace and stability are crucial to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and urged all parties involved to manage the situation prudently.
Separately, Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that peace, stability and cooperation in the Taiwan Strait are significant both to the region and the world and said it hopes to see all relevant parties actively contribute to regional peace and development.
The MOFA said the two statements reflect the objective reality of China’s recent high-pressure coercion of Japan and demonstrate that cross-strait peace and stability have become an important security issue in the Indo-Pacific.
The international community supports maintaining the status quo and views it as key to preserving regional stability, the MOFA said, adding that Taiwan will continue to cooperate with like-minded countries to jointly uphold the rules-based international order.
Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung also said cross-strait security is key to regional and global stability. The government will continue to implement its integrated diplomacy policy and work with international partners to ensure peace, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific, he added. (SFC-E)
