Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung said that Taiwan is an indispensable partner to Europe in its endeavors to enhance security and economic resilience.
Lin made the remarks while meeting with a ten-member contingent led by Evelyn Lee, head of the Council of Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce in Europe (ETCC), Feb. 9 in Taipei City. The delegates came from ten European countries including Germany, Italy and the U.K., according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The minister noted that there has been considerable progress in Taiwan-Europe relations recently, citing his tour last year of seven countries in the region to promote cultural, economic, technology and trade cooperation. He added that Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim delivered a speech in the European Parliament while attending the annual summit of the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China Nov. 7, 2025, in Brussels, and concluded by encouraging the ETCC to keep advancing Taiwan’s influence in Europe.
In response, Lee lauded the ministry’s efforts to facilitate economic diplomacy in Europe, with special reference to the success of industrial collaboration in artificial intelligence and semiconductors. She expressed hope that the ministry would continue to support events throughout Europe on the ETCC’s 2026 calendar, the ministry added.
Founded in 1994, the ETCC is a major Taiwanese business organization in Europe. The MOFA pledged to work with the council to deepen substantial partnerships with like-minded European countries. (POC-E)
