Deputy Foreign Minister François Chih-chung Wu said Taiwan’s semiconductor success is driven in part by close collaboration with supply chains in like-minded countries, including France, Germany, Japan, the Netherlands and the U.S.

Wu made the remarks Feb. 5 in Taipei City while hosting a seminar for over 40 students and educators from Taipei-based National Taiwan Normal University, Paris-based National Institute for Oriental Languages and Civilizations (INALCO) and Quebec City-based National School of Public Administration. The students took part in a training course on the foundations and practices of diplomacy Feb. 2-6, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Despite pressure from China, Taiwan continues to play a key role in the global semiconductor industry, Wu said. He added that Taiwan produces 95 percent of the world’s most advanced chips and all chips used for artificial intelligence applications.

INALCO President Jean-François Huchet said he was encouraged by the growing ties between Taiwan and France, as well as between Taiwan and Europe. He expressed hope of continuing to bring faculty and students to Taiwan to deepen exchanges and cooperation, the MOFA said.

During the seminar, participants asked questions about Taiwan’s foreign policy, international participation and Taiwan-U.S. relations. They also exchanged views with ministry officials on diplomatic work, the ministry added. (POC-E)
