Taiwan’s Nutrition and Healthy Diet Promotion Act has helped build a supportive environment for healthy eating habits, enhance public nutrition knowledge and improve the people’s health, the Ministry of Health and Welfare said Jan. 5.

According to the MOHW, since the legislation’s promulgation on Jan. 3, 2024, the Health Promotion Administration has continued to advance related infrastructure development and deepen health education among all age groups to make it easier for the people to adopt a well-rounded diet.

As of year-end 2025, the legislation has helped set up 85 community nutrition promotion centers in 22 cities and counties, arrange for 164 nutritionists to provide services to the elderly, launch 32 nutrition education innovation projects and organize a prize to encourage healthy diets.

Equally important, the HPA completed the ninth edition of Taiwan’s Dietary Reference Intakes last year to bring local standards more in line with global practices, as well as revised the national dietary guidelines and daily dietary recommendations as references for the general public, the MOHW said, adding that the revisions aim to promote disease prevention and achieve environmental sustainability.

At the same time, the HPA is working with experts and parties of interest to identify major nutrition challenges in Taiwan and provide personalized support and assistance to those in need, the MOHW added. (SFC-E)
