Ministry of Labor Chief Secretary Tzou Tzu-lien took part in the Global Initiative for Safety, Health and Well-being at the Expo2025 and Beyond (GISHW) July 16-19 in Osaka, Japan, highlighting government commitment to preventing workplace violence, the MOL said July 21.
According to the ministry, Tzou participated in an occupational safety and health leader roundtable and an international collaboration forum. During the forum session titled “Mental Health, Harassment and Violence in the Workplace,” the chief secretary joined experts from Australia, Japan, South Africa and the U.S.
Tzou shared Taiwan’s relevant policy and experience, including an amendment to the Occupational Safety and Health Act that contained an entire chapter to address workplace bullying, the MOL said. The amendment clarifies the definition of workplace bullying, strengthens internal and external complaint mechanisms, and enhances protections for victimized workers to help employers comply with the law, the ministry added.
GISHW aims to build a healthy and socially sustainable society based on the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals for 2030, the International Labour Organization’s Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, and the International Social Security Association’s Vision Zero mindset. The event was attended by academics, experts, business leaders and students from 160 countries and nine international organizations, with discussions ranging from mental health to the impacts of artificial intelligence and climate change.
