National Palace Museum Southern Branch online video tour releases in April

The National Palace Museum is not only the largest museum in Taiwan but was also ranked sixth among the most visited art museums in the world in 2015. The National Science and Technology Council's humanities salon series of online guided tour videos invited assistant professor Chiu Ling-ting from the National Taiwan University of Arts Department of Painting and Calligraphy Arts to give an in-depth introduction to the historical context of the NPM and reveal some secret aspects of the NPM Southern Branch in Chiayi County.

The museum's cultural artefact collections come mainly from the royal collections of the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. Treasures from the Forbidden City can be seen all over the world, but the best collection is held by the NPM in Taipei City and Chiayi County in Taiwan.

The opening of the NPM Southern Branch in 2015 injected new life into the visitor experience by combining displays with other events like outdoor art exhibitions, showing the NPM collection from multiple perspectives. Chiu, who acts as guide in the video, was curator of the first prize in the new media art category of the 2019 Florence Biennale in Italy and frequently visits museums and art fairs to facilitate her research.

The video will premiere on YouTube on Friday, April 18, at 2:00 p.m. It will introduce the architectural design of the NPM Southern Branch and its collections.(POC-E)
