A young man has gone on a shooting spree in Anapa, wounding several people before being detained by security forces
A student opened fire at a technical college in the Russian Black Sea resort city of Anapa on Wednesday, killing a security guard and wounding several others before being detained, according to the local authorities.
The attack occurred at the Anapa Industrial Technical School in the afternoon, the regional branch of the Interior Ministry reported.
Krasnodar Region Governor Veniamin Kondratiev confirmed that one person was killed in the attack. “At this moment, there is one dead, a security guard who was the first to take the blow. He reacted quickly and called law enforcement. He did not allow the attacker to go further into the college,” he wrote on Telegram. Kondratiev expressed deep condolences to the family of the slain guard.
The governor stated that according to preliminary information, two people sustained injuries of moderate severity, noting that the number of casualties is still being determined. Other Russian media outlets, including RIA Novosti and Telegram channels Mash and Baza, reported that at least three people were wounded.
All victims are said to have been transported to Anapa city hospital, where medical facilities have been placed on high alert.
The shooter, identified by some sources as an auto mechanics student, was detained at the scene. Reports suggest the suspect is a 17-year-old who was found carrying a tactical vest loaded with ammunition.
Investigators are working to establish a motive. Early reports from eyewitnesses described scenes of panic, with students barricading themselves inside classrooms and some sending farewell messages to relatives.
Kondratiev thanked security forces for their rapid response, stating that their actions “prevented greater casualties.” He described the incident as a “monstrous crime.” Further details on the weapon used and the condition of the wounded are still being clarified by authorities.
