Premier Cho Jung-tai said July 18 that the government is committed to working with the private sector to shape Taiwan into an artificial intelligence hub to further progress national economic development.
Cho made the remarks while attending an Asia Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce (ASTCC) directors’ and supervisors’ meeting in Taipei City. He expressed appreciation to ASTCC members for their contributions to Taiwan.
Taiwan has raised its international profile as evidenced by top ranking in Asia and third ranking globally in the 2024 Global Report published by the U.K.-based Global Entrepreneurship Monitor, Cho said. The government will establish further trade and investment centers in countries worldwide to assist overseas Taiwan entrepreneurs to strengthen connections with the home country, he added.
This is complemented by government measures such as the Taiwan Global Pathfinders Initiative, which helps young people put dreams into practice overseas, the premier said. The National Talent Competitiveness Jumpstart Program recruits foreign professionals in key industries and expands the retention of skilled foreign workers, while the Trillion NT Dollar Investment National Development Plan optimizes investment and finance conditions for public construction, he added.
According to Cho, the government is promoting the Asia Asset Management Center project to boost financial sector growth, and undertaking a development initiative for the country’s six regions to gear up for construction of 152 local infrastructures. It has proposed a 10 major AI infrastructure plan to strengthen the country’s AI technology prowess, he said.
Cho concluded by saying that to ensure practical and smooth implementation of such measures, Taiwan’s freedom, democratic way of life and the rule of law must not be altered or destroyed. (YCH-E)
