Winners of the 2025 Presidential Hackathon Awards were honored Dec. 14 in Taipei City for their ability to address public issues through data, technology and innovative thinking while upholding the spirit of open collaboration and interdisciplinary innovation.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Lai Ching-te congratulated the five local winning teams: ReSchool, AI-Powered Green Chemistry Diagnostic Advisor, Decarbon Strivers, Zha Nan and The Strivers. Under the theme Dual Transformation for Green Growth, their projects included a one-stop platform for chemical risk assessment and safer alternative solutions; a sustainable management platform for recycling and reusing more than 120,000 metric tons of used coffee grounds annually; and an emergency blood supply system that integrates resources from blood donation centers and hospitals.
In addition, CivicWorks Guardian, the winner of the award for artificial intelligence applications, leveraged AI to build an integrated management chain for occupational safety, quality and progress at construction sites.
The president went on to applaud winners of this year’s international track, which was themed Digital Innovation for Resilience and Sustainability. CropNow from India devised a crop health monitoring system to help farmers increase yields, while Beyond Hearing, a joint Taiwan-France team, used real-time sound analysis and positioning to provide greater spatial awareness to people with hearing impairments.
Lai expressed hope that the achievements strengthen innovation and reach every corner of society, noting that the Presidential Hackathon has recognized 41 domestic and 14 international teams to date. He added that many of their outstanding proposals have been translated into policies.
The president concluded by pledging to drive transformation through digitalization, achieve net zero emissions through collaboration and encourage public-private efforts to build a smarter, more sustainable and brighter future. (YCH-E)
