President Lai Ching-te pledged to continue collaborating with democratic partners to uphold regional peace and advance global prosperity.

The Presidential Office said Lai made the remarks at a reception hosted by Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung March 12 in Taipei City. Prominent guests included senior government officials and Robert Kennedy Lewis, St. Lucia’s ambassador to ROC (Taiwan) and dean of the diplomatic corps in the country.

The president thanked Lin for his active promotion of integrated diplomacy, adding that the foreign minister visited 14 countries on six continents and received 401 delegations last year, and recently returned from a visit to ally Tuvalu earlier this month.

Lai further expressed gratitude to President Surangel Whipps Jr. of Palau, President Hilda C. Heine of the Marshall Islands, Prime Minister Terrance Drew of St. Kitts and Nevis, Prime Minister Feleti Penitala Teo of Tuvalu as well as to supportive friends from around the world.

He thanked the U.K. and Japan for signing trade agreements with Taiwan in June and December 2025, respectively, and expressed gratitude to the U.S. for the signing of the Joint Statement on the Pax Silica Declaration and U.S.-Taiwan Cooperation on Economic Security in January this year.

Additionally, the president recognized Taiwanese citizens for their hard work that resulted in last year’s domestic economic growth reaching 8.68%, the highest in 15 years. He also praised the generous spirit displayed by the generous contributions to relief efforts during last year’s natural disasters, the PO added.

Lai anticipated continued national development as he looked at the coming year, the PO said. Faced with authoritarian expansion and volatile geopolitical conditions, Lai called on all parties to work together to successfully tackle challenges. (POC-E)
