HomeUpdatesPresident Lai welcomes Eswatini parliamentary delegation
President Lai Ching-te received a delegation led by Eswatini's House of Assembly Speaker Jabulani Mabuza Nov. 25 at the Presidential Office in Taipei City. Delegates included House of Assembly members Lindiwe Mamba, Joseph Souza, Jabulane M. Simelane, and Allen Vilane, according to the PO.

The president expressed gratitude to Eswatini’s long-term support for Taiwan’s international participation, the PO said and went on to enumerate the areas in which Taiwan and the Kingdom of Eswatini have collaborated: agriculture, education, public health and women’s empowerment. Lai added that a strategic oil reserve project was launched in April with assistance from Taiwan, which would enhance the ally’s energy security and facilitate the nation’s development.

Lai further emphasized that the kingdom is situated in the African Continental Free Trade Area and is a member of the Southern African Customs Union, therefore it enjoys a robust investment climate and exceptional access to personnel resources. He pledged to encourage more domestic enterprises to view the country as an important base to expand into the African continent’s market, the office added.

In response, Mabuza stated that he was impressed with Taiwan’s advanced technology, vibrant democracy, commitment to social welfare and to environmental sustainability. He added that the long-term bilateral bond is highly cherished and the kingdom will continue to deepen mutual partnership in culture, economy, medicine and technology, the PO concluded. (POC-E)
