President Lai Ching-te received a delegation led by St. Vincent and the Grenadines Deputy Prime Minister, St. Clair Leacock, March 18 at the Presidential Office in Taipei City. Lai anticipated ever-closer relations between the two countries.
Lai noted that over the course of the nearly 45-year diplomatic ties between Taiwan and SVG, comprehensive partnerships in areas spanning agriculture, education, information and communication technology, medicine and public health have been established.
He also said that this is the first time that a delegation from the new SVG administration has visited Taiwan since taking office at the end of last year and was very grateful for the importance attached to the deep friendship between the two countries. Lai further asked Leacock to convey sincere greetings from Taiwan to Prime Minister the Hon. Dr. Godwin Friday.
The president said that Taiwan will continue to connect youth from both countries through the Taiwan Scholarship program, Taiwan Global Pathfinders Initiative and Taiwan Global Pathfinders Initiative Diplomatic Allies Inbound Track Program.
Leacock, who is also Minister of National Security, Disaster Management and Immigration, thanked Taiwan on behalf of Governor-General H. E. Stanley John and Prime Minister Friday, for its positive relations in regard to the economy and further acknowledged Taiwan’s substantive role in safeguarding peace and welfare.
The deputy prime minister said that the cooperation between the two nations conveyed a clear message to the international community: even island countries can bring change to the world and humanity through their strength. (POC-E)
