The sixtieth Golden Bell Awards Exhibition opened Oct. 6 at Huashan 1914 Creative Park in Taipei City, bringing six decades of Taiwan’s broadcasting, media and television landscape to life.
Running through Oct. 19, the event is themed “The Next Second, The Future.” It is organized into four thematic areas showcasing key milestones, iconic TV dramas, success stories and creative forces behind radio and TV programs.
The first area explores the beginnings of, and breakthroughs in, Taiwanese broadcasting, displaying “Pei Mei’s Chinese Cook Book” for the chef’s winning radio program and past Golden Bell trophies. The second showcases original props from “Justice Pao,” a replica set from “Nights of the Rose,” and clips from “Taiwan Tornado.”
There is also an interactive area allowing visitors to experience the thrill of winning, in which they can take photos with trophies. The last area honors production teams with recreated variety show sets and shipbuilding clips from “Lord Jiaqing and The Journey to Taiwan”
Culture Minister Li Yuan said during the opening ceremony that radio and television provide information and serve as relaxation for people from morning traffic reports to prime-time dramas. He took the opportunity to praise Special Contribution Award winners, veteran actress Chen Shu-fang and set decorator Yeh Hui-lung, and expressed belief that radio and television will continue to foster shared social memories and thus cohesion.
According to the Ministry of Culture, Golden Bell Awards presentation ceremonies will be held Oct. 11, 17 and 18 in Taipei. In addition, a light projection show on the Presidential Office Building is running Oct. 7-10 from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., with displays every half hour. (YCH-E)
