The Ministry of Education’s Sports Administration staged the third forum of the 2025 Workshop Series, July 25 in Taipei City, demonstrating commitment to organizing international sports events.
According to the SA, the forum incorporated presentations on the results of the Asia Pacific Sports Policy Network project and invited over 20 guests from Australia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Netherlands, Singapore and Thailand. Guests gave keynote speeches and held in-depth discussions on city branding development and sports technology.
Speaker, Linda Klaver, head of Netherlands-based Alkmaar Judo Club, briefed on strategy for hosting international athletic events; Hironari Yamada, head of business planning department at Osaka City-based NTT Sportict Co., talked about the integration of innovative technology into sports.
The forum featured two panels on city branding and sports events, as well as sports technology and events respectively, the SA stated. The former was moderated by Mei Yen Chen, co-director of MOE’s Fun Sports in Taiwan project; and the latter by Michael Lin, CEO of SA-supported ASPN Sports Tech Accelerator.
Forum guests visited the World Baseball Softball Confederation U-12 Baseball World Cup currently underway July 26 in southern Taiwan’s Tainan City.
The Sports Ministry is to be inaugurated Sept. 9 this year and the SA is committed to development of a more robust mechanism to support sporting events. It also seeks to host international competitions combining technology, tourism and culture to raise the country’s profile in global sports. (POC-E)
