Supply chain cooperation forum held in Taipei City

Taipei City-based Research Institute for Democracy, Society and Emerging Technology (DSET), in collaboration with National Chengchi University Supply Chain Resilience Center, held a global summit on supply chain resilience June 14 in the capital, according to the National Science and Technology Council (NTSC).

As a national think tank under the cabinet-level NSTC, DSET coordinated the forum. The meeting drew academics and corporate leaders from Australia, France, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Ukraine and the U.S. to explore strategies for artificial intelligence, drones, energy and semiconductors.

NSTC Minister Wu Cheng-wen noted that Taiwan is indispensable to democratic supply chains, due to its leading position in the semiconductor industry.

Stephen Yates, a U.S. representative from Washington, D.C.-based think tank Heritage Foundation, gave a keynote speech and held discussions with representatives of Japanese and Korean counterparts, focusing on an analysis of U.S. President Trump’s impact on global markets and potential cooperation between Taiwan, Japan, Korea and the U.S.

A session on AI delved into Taiwan’s strategic role in global competition in the sector, the NSTC said. Representatives from U.S. software platform for big data analytics firm, Palantir Technologies, U.S. Special Competitive Studies Project and France-based Institut Montaigne discussed AI development in China, Europe, Taiwan and the U.S.

DSET President Tu Wen-ling pledged to enhance Taiwan’s strategic role in key sector supply chains through policy research and think tank diplomacy. (POC-E)
