Wu made the statements in an interview with Switzerland’s Radio and Television (SRF) when talking about democratic values and regional security. He said that amid China’s cognitive warfare and military threats, reinforcing defense safeguards national sovereignty and avoids provocation.
Despite PRC pressure, Taiwan enjoys substantive relations with other countries, including collaboration with the U.S. and European nations to uphold security. Wu noted that Taiwan’s position in the global semiconductor industry made retention of cross-strait stability essential to global security and economy.
If conflict were to break out in the Taiwan Strait, it would create an indelible impact on democratic systems and supply chains, the Deputy FM said. (POC-E)
