Taipei Fashion Week embodies sustainable concept

Taipei Fashion Week AW25, which opened March 27 at Songshan Cultural and Creative Park, demonstrates the domestic fashion industry’s commitment to advancing sustainable development.

Hosted by the Ministry of Culture, the event runs through March 30. MOC Minister Lee Yuan and the diplomatic corps in Taiwan attended the opening ceremony.

Lee gave an interview at the opening holding the event’s signature souvenir, a small pineapple leaf fiber tote bag, and noted that TFW is the first in Asia to focus on sustainability throughout the entire development and production process. He added that top domestic textile businesses and outstanding fashion designers are jointly exploring best practices for implementing environmental conservation.

The opening show featured collections from six fashion designers: Claudia Wang, DYCTEAM, Gioia Pan, oqLiq, UUIN and WEAVISM, each of whom collaborated with a different textile brand. From recycling waste materials and reclaiming used yarn to weaving technological cloth and adopting digital modeling technology, Taiwan’s fashion industry fully embraced the “Endless Fashion” theme’s aims of recycling, reusing, repurposing and replaying.

Seven dynamic showcases are underway at different locations around Taipei and meetings with international buyers are taking place throughout the weekend. The fashion market and workshops on sustainability are set to be held March 30. Additionally, a forum entitled “Fashion the Next,” scheduled for March 28, features Korean designer Kuho Jung and his successful Seoul Fashion Week, as well as the broader topic of the introduction of South Korean brands into the global market.
