The Taipei City Government signed an agreement Feb. 11 with Nvidia Corp.’s Taiwan subsidiary on constructing the company’s Taiwan headquarters on the T17 and T18 plots at Beitou-Shilin Technology Park.
Inked by Taipei City Mayor Chiang Wan-an and Mark Steven Hoose, vice president global tax at Nvidia, the contract grants the artificial intelligence chipmaker a 50-year lease for land surface rights, with a maximum extension of 20 years and royalties totaling NT$12.2 billion (US$389 million).
Under Nvidia’s investment plan, more than NT$40 billion will be allocated for construction, with operations expected to create over 10,000 jobs, the city government said. Construction could begin as early as June.
The TCG said Nvidia established a local subsidiary as the contracting party and raised its capital to NT$1 billion, later increasing it by another NT$3.3 billion to signal its long-term commitment to Taipei, the local government said.
Chiang said that Taipei is Nvidia’s home, calling the pact a major milestone and pledging full administrative support. He added that the investment highlights the city’s strong industrial clusters and global competitiveness, positioning Taipei as a key hub for AI development.
The mayor also said he hopes Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang will attend the groundbreaking ceremony, adding that the local government would also support plans to set up a second headquarters in the city. Huang is scheduled to visit Taiwan for Computex Taipei, set for June 2-5, and attend an Nvidia event at Taipei Music Center. (YCH-E)
