Taiwan passenger arrival cards will go fully online with paper versions to be phased out starting Oct.1, the Ministry of the Interior said June 17.
According to the MOI, travelers visiting Taiwan will be advised to access the Taiwan Arrival Card (TWAC) website and submit information online either in traditional Chinese or English within three days before entering the country. Instructions on how to complete the form are available in Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese and Indonesian, the ministry said.
In addition, passengers can upload a photo of the basic information page from their passports for the system to reference, reducing time required to complete the form, the MOI said.
For families or groups, one person may fill out forms for up to 16 individuals, which further shortens the immigration and customs clearance process, the ministry added.
The MOI’s National Immigration Agency has provided companies using both air and marine ports of entry with the QR code for the TWAC website, the ministry said, adding that the code is to be displayed at airports and harbors, allowing travelers who have not completed their form in advance to scan it.
The ministry recommended that ideally passengers should scan the code and fill in the form before their passport is checked at immigration in Taiwan. (YCH-E)
