Environment Minister Peng Chi-ming noted Sept. 16 that the incorporation of artificial intelligence and digital technology can enhance recycling efficiency and expedite both green growth and net-zero transition.
Peng made the remarks in a prerecorded video screened during the opening ceremony of the International E-Waste Management Network (IEMN) Annual Meeting in Sao Paulo. The conference, which was co-hosted by the Ministry of Environment’s Resource Circulation Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency of the U.S., drew participants from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Columbia, Ecuador, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines and the U.S., the ministry said.
This year’s meeting explored the potential of AI and digital technology applications in managing electronic waste, the MOENV said. Taiwan’s experience promoting digital product passports as well as using AI to classify waste were featured in discussions as examples of its work to advance the circular economy.
Jointly launched by Taiwan and the U.S. in 2011, IEMN has become a major platform for improving e-waste management. The ministry pledged to continue collaborations with international partners to contribute to global sustainability. (POC-E)
