Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party held internal elections Oct. 4, the ministry said, noting that Sanae Takaichi, member of Japan’s House of Representatives, was elected as the new leader. The MOFA said that Taiwan and the LDP enjoy a close and long-standing relationship, with the party’s legislators in the House of Representatives and House of Councillors, as well as members of the Youth Division, visiting Taiwan regularly.
Takaichi led a delegation to meet with President Lai Ching-te in April. The MOFA said that in recent years the Japanese government, as led by the LDP, has consistently emphasized the importance of cross-strait peace and offered support for Taiwan’s international participation in major global contexts, for which it is sincerely grateful.
Czechia held parliamentary elections Oct. 3-4 and the result was announced Oct. 5, the MOFA said. The Central European country has continued to deepen ties with Taiwan in areas spanning culture, economy, education, public health, technology, and trade, the ministry stated, adding that the Czech Parliament has also shown cross-party support for Taiwan in the form of multiple Taiwan-friendly resolutions.
