Taiwan, France expand industrial, technological cooperation

HomeUpdatesTaiwan, France expand industrial, technological cooperation
Taiwan and France are preparing to take on more industrial research and development projects this year as the government continues to help local firms expand their presence in the global supply chain.

According to the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the two countries announced a bilateral innovation and R&D cooperation program last year, with government funding and resources from the MOEA’s Industrial Development Administration and Department of Industrial Technology and loan support from the French public investment bank Bpifrance.

Six projects have been chosen from 10 submissions in the first call for proposals, the MOEA said. They focus on artificial intelligence, high performance computation, silicon photonics, advanced display technologies and biomedicine applications, and the ministry said they are ready to kick off this month.

For the second stage of the initiative, the MOEA said the focus will be on the non-red drone supply chain, semiconductors, robotics, space and low-orbit satellites, telecommunications, biotechnology and medicine, technological startups, the circular economy and offshore wind power.

In a related event, Hsinchu County-based Industrial Technology Research Institute and Paris-based Eutelsat Communications S.A. concluded a memorandum of understanding March 30 in Paris to expand cooperation on low-orbit satellites and telecommunications.

The MOEA expects the pact to pave the way for expanded supply chain partnerships, as well as making connections in industrial ecosystem building and the development of 6G satellite communications standards, applications for low-Earth orbit and geosynchronous equatorial orbit satellites, and satellite broadband.
