Taiwan is getting ready to take center stage as guest of honor at the 2025 Seoul International Book Fair running June 18-22 in the South Korean capital, the National Museum of Taiwan Literature said June 17.
According to the NMTL under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture, Taiwan’s pavilion is themed “Taiwan Sensibility” and will present a raft of curated local titles in Mandarin, English and Korean divided into three sections: Indigenous Literature, Natural Writing and Taiwan Literature Awards. It will showcase Taiwan’s richly layered identity through the six facets of literature; lifestyle; imagery; mountains, sea and travel; food and entertainment; and shared histories.
Titles on display include “The Man with the Compound Eyes” by Wu Ming-yi, “Pinocha the Plover” by Liu Ko-hsiang and “Living Off the Sea” by Liao Hung-chi to spotlight Taiwan’s unique literary landscape and the breadth and depth of its content, the NTML added.
Equally important, the NMTL said that ever since the Korean-language version of “Ghost Town” by Kevin Chen was published in January 2024, Taiwan publications have generated great interest among Korean publishing firms and readers. The pavilion will feature English editions of selected Taiwan Literature Awards winners and arrange matching sessions for international publishing firms interested in these titles.
Other highlights include three speeches by Taiwan writers Wu Ming-yi, Tung Shu-ming and Ping Lu; two discussion sessions involving Wu, Tiunn Ka-siông and the Korean translators of their novels; exhibitions on LGBTQ literature; and a wide range of memorabilia featuring Taiwan elements. (SFC-E)
