HomeUpdatesTaiwan, Germany stage FemRises festival
The FemRises festival hosted by Taiwan and Germany is underway Aug. 8-10 in Berlin, showcasing the collective creative and cultural power of women in Asia and Europe.

Jointly staged by the Taipei Representative Office in Germany’s Cultural Division; Taipei City-based Taiwan Foundation for Democracy; and Bildkunst, a Bonn-headquartered visual arts copyright society, the festival focuses on gender equality and Taiwan’s democracy. Under the theme “Everything is Possible,” the event features a creative market, film screenings, interactive workshops and discussion panels.

The screening sessions will show short films by female directors from Taiwan, the Ministry of Culture said, including “Flight and Frame” by Johan Chang, “Intervention am Esstisch” by Lin Yu-yen, “My Terra” by Chu Yun-tien and “The Sparkle, the Blossom and the Milky Land” by Wang Dan-fong.

According to the MOC, the panels involve female social activists and representatives from the film industry, the media and nongovernmental organizations to share their views and experiences. The creative market comprises over 30 stands featuring art, books, food, handmade crafts and wellness products from Asia.

FemRises plays a key role in promoting cultural exchanges between Taiwan and Europe, the MOC said, adding that it demonstrates the international influence and visibility of Taiwan women in the social and creative spheres.

The festival, involving female curators from Taiwan, Germany, Hong Kong and the Netherlands, emphasizes cultural identity and immigration issues faced by Asian women in Europe. (YCH-E)
