Representatives from eight APEC member economies attended the workshop, including Australia, Canada, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam, the administration said.
Discussions centered on three main themes, best practice, empowerment and community engagement.
MOHW Deputy Minister Lin Ching-yi noted that due to a rapidly aging population and the prevalence of chronic diseases, increased medical expenditures pose a challenge to the domestic health system. To address the issue, the ministry has established an individualized primary care platform in addition to optimizing the overall medical environment.
In recent years, NHIA has actively promoted multiple projects, including a general practitioner integrated health care initiative and a holistic integrated care plan for remote areas. The administration has leveraged digital technology to further facilitate medical accessibility in outlying islands as part of health equity goals, the administration added.
APEC is an international platform in which Taiwan enjoys official participation and is committed to organizing workshops that enhance influence and visibility in the international health sector, the NHIA concluded. (POC-E)
