Marshall Islands President Hilda C. Heine concluded her visit to Taiwan June 7, underscoring commitment to further advancing the nearly three-decade partnership.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Heine’s trip followed President Lai Ching-te’s visit to the allied nation last December, when Lai also paid visits to other allies including Palau and Tuvalu.
During her six-day trip, Heine met with Lai, joined a state banquet, witnessed the signing of some documents including a letter of intent for sports exchange and a memorandum of understanding on education. Heine also received an Order of Brilliant Jade from Lai, the MOFA said.
Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung hosted a reception for Heine, and other items on the itinerary included a seminar introducing Marshall Islands investment opportunities. In addition the president visited the Southern Branch of the National Palace Museum in Chiayi County; and the Taiwan Indigenous Peoples Cultural Park in the southern county of Pingtung, to expand links in culture, economy, education, shipping and sports.
Under integrated diplomacy, the MOFA pledged to implement the Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project to continue deepening ties with the Marshall Islands and jointly promoting peace, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region. (POC-E)
