A memorandum of understanding was concluded between the Chinese Taipei Paralympic Committee and the Oceania Paralympic Committee April 9 in Taipei City to expand para sports cooperation at global venues, the Ministry of Sports said.

According to the MOS, the “Chinese Taipei-Oceania Sports Inclusion Pathway to 2032 Brisbane” was signed by CTPC President Mu Ming-chu and OPC President Paul Bird. Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee, as well as those from the embassies of Palau, the Marshall Islands and Tuvalu were also present to witness the signing.

The pact will serve as an official mechanism to foster cooperation between Taiwan and the Oceania region on para sports, sports science and sports equality. It will promote exchanges and experience sharing regarding training athletes, coaches and professionals for para sports, the ministry said, adding that it will also enhance connections with regional allies and extend such partnerships with Australia and New Zealand.

As part of the “Taiwan Can Help” ethos, the ministry expects the pact to promote para sports in the three regional allies, an objective also in line with the consensus reached during the meeting between Sports Minister Lee Yang and Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung last November to leverage sports diplomacy, enhance Taiwan’s visibility and showcase its athletic prowess.
