UpdatesTaiwan stages carbon pricing forum
The Ministry of Environment organized a carbon pricing forum July 22 in Taipei City, highlighting government efforts to drive steady and sustainable industrial transformation and development.

According to the MOENV, the event titled “International Business Forum: Pricing Forward, Aligning Global Strategies” was attended by officials, foreign business representatives and delegates from the American Chamber of Commerce in Taiwan and the European Chamber of Commerce Taiwan.

During his opening remarks, Environment Minister Peng Chi-ming said carbon pricing systems are key to achieving net-zero emissions for industries. He cited the system launched earlier this year in Taiwan, which levies fees on power suppliers and manufacturing firms that emit over 25,000 metric tons of greenhouse gases per year and offers preferential rates to entities that implement carbon reduction measures and invest in low-carbon technologies and green manufacturing processes.

The ministry led a delegation of Taiwan Green Growth Alliance members to Germany in June to attend training camps, Peng said, adding that the trip aimed to facilitate the establishment of Taiwan’s emissions trading system in 2026. He concluded by encouraging all stakeholders and members of the public to learn more by participating in ministry activities and visiting its website.

During the event, the MOENV shared Taiwan’s net-zero roadmap and carbon pricing strategies. It said that Taiwan is committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 through promoting digital and green transformations, aligning regulations with global trends and establishing mechanisms for capital injections, among other measures.

The Ministry of Economic Affairs introduced government initiatives to help businesses adapt to the system, including assistance for energy saving and personnel cultivation, and its collaboration with the MOENV to accelerate smart transition for enterprises. In the panel discussion, participants concurred that maintaining policy consistency, enhancing transparency and following globally recognized standards are essential for the system’s success.
