The Ministry of Health and Welfare staged the Clinical Quality Language International Conference and Workshop Oct. 13 in Taipei City, underscoring the government’s commitment to enhancing clinical decision-making efficiency.
Discussions centered on exploring the potential of applying CQL in clinical decision support and electronic clinical quality measures, the ministry said, adding that the event drew medical information experts, policymakers and technical teams from home and abroad.
In his remarks, Lee Chien-chang, director of the MOHW’s Department of Information Management, said that as demand grows for next-generation electronic medical records and interhospital data exchange, making clinical rules interoperable has become a key challenge in advancing smart medicine. He expressed hope that the forum would help clinical professionals and medical information personnel gain insight into applying CQL in electronic medical records and health insurance reimbursement.
During the morning session, Bryn Rhodes, director of standards strategy for Canada-based Smile Digital Health, shared experiences in applying and promoting CQL, while Lee explained its role in electronic medical record platforms. Chen Long-sheng, a researcher at the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control, also briefed attendees on the integration of the language into the Taiwan Healthcare Indicator Series, the MOHW said.
During the workshop, medical information experts guided participants in hands-on CQL exercises to strengthen their understanding of the language, the ministry added.
Lee pledged to continue promoting the standardization of clinical quality indicators to support integrated medical data governance, patient safety monitoring and smart medicine, with the goal of realizing patient-centered digital health services. (POC-E)
