HomeUpdatesTaiwan, Sweden convene research workshop
The Taiwan-Sweden Bilateral Joint Research Workshop got underway Jan. 29 in Yilan County to showcase progress in semiconductor, quantum technology and green energy cooperation.

According to the National Science and Technology Council, the two-day event was organized with the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research (SSF). Research teams from both sides presented the results of ongoing projects, and participants set plans for the next phase of bilateral cooperation.

During his opening remarks, NSTC Deputy Minister Chen Bing-yu said the two organizations agreed in 2024 to expand the research scope for 2026-2031 to include 10 key strategic fields such as drones and robotics, neuroscience, ocean exploration, and quantum and space technologies.

The workshop served as a great opportunity to look back at past achievements while formulating strategies to help attain greater success over the next five years, Chen added.

Swedish Rep. to Taiwan Helena Reitberger said Sweden and Taiwan have a long-standing and comprehensive cooperative relationship. The research partnership between the NSTC and SSF is highly valued, she said, adding that the Swedish Representative Office in Taipei and Taiwan’s Ministry of Education have been discussing a scholarship program to promote bilateral talent cultivation and exchange.

Since 2020 the NSTC and SSF have been supporting a series of high-impact research projects in advanced materials, artificial intelligence, next-generation communications technology, quantum technology, semiconductors and sustainable energy, the agency said. (SFC-E)
